Bret Michaels and Tommy Lee may be in trouble, but it’s not quite the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll of their heyday. The Poison frontman and Motley Crue drummer may face gun charges after visiting a shooting range in North Carolina.

Michaels and Lee took time off during their current co-headlining tour to visit a shooting range and were photographed posing with the gun. But as it turns out when you have a criminal record, you’re not allowed to handle a gun. The duo were reported to the police by a local TV station and apparently no one knew any laws were being broken until WSOCTV announced it.

The station released a bulletin that read: “The sheriff and local police chiefs didn’t know about it until we brought it to their attention. It could be illegal if any of those men have criminal records that prohibit them from using guns. There were officers from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury and Spencer police departments with the rockers. We found that out when the sheriff and both chiefs called me to say they’re now investigating. The sheriff wants to know if the pictures show bad judgement, a policy problem or a crime.”

North Carolina law states that it is illegal “for any person who has been convicted of a felony to purchase, own, possess, or have in his custody, care, or control any firearm.” Lee was jailed in 1998 for four months after pleading no contest to kicking Pamela Anderson. The police are reportedly investigated whether any laws have actually been broken. To which we say: What a good use of state resources!

Lee and Michaels have continued on their co-headlining run, which wraps up in mid-August.
